A bridge is a dental device used to replace one or more missing teeth. A conventional bridge consists of a false tooth attached to crowns on both sides of a missing tooth. The crowns are typically made from porcelain but can also be made from gold. The tooth-coloured porcelain is chosen in a natural shade to blend in with the adjacent teeth.
Once the teeth are prepared, a mould (impression) or scan is taken and sent to a laboratory where the bridge is made. During this time, a temporary bridge is placed to protect the prepared teeth and reduce sensitivity. When the permanent bridge is ready, it is fitted and cemented permanently, blending seamlessly with the adjacent teeth and gums.
