X-Rays
2D and 3D Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays are an important part of modern dentistry. They allow your dentist to see what’s happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums, helping to identify issues that may not be visible by examination alone. At Dental Clinique, we use both 2D and 3D imaging technology to provide a detailed and accurate picture of your oral health.

2D X-Rays, such as bitewings and panoramic scans, are commonly used to check for tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss and changes in your dental condition between appointments. These are often used during routine check-ups or to monitor areas of concern over time.

3D X-Rays, also known as CBCT (cone beam computed tomography), offer a much more detailed view. This type of scan captures images in three dimensions, allowing your dentist to assess the depth, position and structure of teeth, roots, nerves and bone. 3D scans are particularly useful for more complex treatments like dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, root canal therapy or orthodontics. They help ensure the highest level of precision and safety when planning your care.

Using the latest imaging technology helps us provide accurate diagnoses, better treatment planning, and peace of mind for you as a patient. We’re here to make sure you feel fully informed and comfortable every step of the way.

Understanding the risks

Dental X‑rays, including 2D and 3D imaging, use low levels of radiation and are considered safe when used appropriately. There is a small potential risk from exposure, but this is minimised with modern equipment, the lowest appropriate dose, and protective measures such as lead aprons. In rare cases, images may need to be repeated or further tests done. Our dentists will explain why the X‑ray is needed, the benefits and potential risks, and answer any questions so you can make an informed decision.
